Anton and Erin from
Broadway to Hollywood

Well! I've just got back from the Bristol Hippodrome where I saw Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag in their 2018 tour.

We went to see them dance in Cardiff last year - it was a long walk from the train station to St Davids Hall which is in the pedestrianized area of Cardiff City Centre which meant no Taxis could get near the theater.  This year, I was lucky enough to get tickets for the Bristol Hippodrome which made life a lot easier!

There are some provisions at the Bristol Hippodrome for people with mobility issues but be warned there are a lot of steps!  Our seats were in the stalls very close to the stage thankfully we weren't any closer otherwise we would have been sat on the stage!  Any closer  and you probably start looking up at stage and might not be able to see the dancing feet!

At Cardiff in 2017, we were sat  upstairs on the side of the stage and had a great view looking down... I couldn't help but notice a barrage of flashes from camera phones during the last encore!

If you like Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag from Strictly come dancing, then you'll love this show and their personalities come across very well in the sections where they have a chat.  I get the feeling they choose the questions for answers that they might already have something planned beforehand to say - so sticking a card in the box asking about world politics might not get answered.

I'm not the world's best expert on Dancing but I have watched every single series of Strictly Come Dancing from the start and recognise some of the styles of dance from the show on BBC One.  Seeing dancing for real (as opposed to on the telly), you realise how fast dances like the jivey ones are but also how graceful the Waltz and the Foxtrot are!

Being a wobbly guy, who uses a walking aid, seeing people move and dance like this is amazing!

Erin and Anton dance very well together and Anton is able to sweep Erin off her feet and whizz her about (technical term!) in the air while she still looks incredibly light and graceful.

Lance Ellington is one of the singers from Strictly Come Dancing  and is the main singer for this stage show.  I'm not always into singing but I actually really enjoyed his performances, some of which happen to allow Erin and Anton enough time to change into new costumes.

They also have an amazing group of 6 highly energetic "backing dancers"... if you can have backing singers, can you get backing dancers?  They do a great job and take turns in dancing with Anton and Erin at various stages throughout the show. They used the Bristol stage very well and the result is highly visual to feast your eyes upon.

Anton always looks very dapper but it's Erin that steals the show with all her bright, colourful and amazing dresses that swirl around as she dances.

I also like the way that its not just men... and it's not just ladies.... its both men and women acting as one...  This sort of dancing is all about the interactions and attractions between the sexes and I find it very appealing and hypnotic on a very deep personal instinct kind of level.  It actually reminds me of the birds of paradise putting on a show to attract a mate.

There were one or two bits where I'm not sure whether they had lighting issues but I noticed occasionally the spotlights didn't always cover everybody they should have done.

The music of the show is played by the London Concert Orchestra in the big band style and sounds really good and impressive... I think live music just adds something special to a show and you can see that they enjoy performing in front of a live audience.  In the stalls, we had the band itself combined with the amplification and so it was really quite loud!

In the second half there's a lot of fun banter from Anton and Erin, where they answer those pre-chosen questions from the audience and it includes a lot of fun "behind the scenes" stories from Strictly Come Dancing.

The show lasted about 2 hours 25 minutes - the 25 minutes was probably the 25 minute interval.  Infact the show was due to start at 2:30pm but Anton was sorting his pants out and it actually started 10 minutes late....!

I imagine by now that most of the tour will be fully booked, but if you ever get the chance to see Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag dance in a live show, then I can almost nearly guarantee that you will enjoy and remember it for a very long time!
